Overcoming Resistance: A Path to Your Dreams

25 Aug

Did you know the most frustrated person in the world is someone who has a dream but allows resistance to keep them from the very dream that could change their lives and the lives of others? Resistance is anything that keeps one from starting or completing the vision of one’s life. It shows up anytime we want to start and rarely surrenders. So, let’s identify what resistance is:

  1. It’s the life we live and the life we truly want and what lies between is resistance.
  2. It is evil and keeps us from the intended life God has for us.
  3. It is a toxic environment, one that is rooted in unhappiness and keeps us stunted and less than we were born to be.

What are its characteristics?

  1. It’s “invisible and cannot be seen, touched, heard, or smelled, but it can be felt” Steven Pressfield”
  2. It is the internal enemy that rises from within us.
  3. It will tell us anything to keep us from doing what we know we should be doing.
  4. It is determined to stop us from achieving our goals and dreams.

How do we overcome resistance?

  1. Master the fear of anything that keeps us from pursuing the life we truly want by getting started, being consistent, not procrastinating, sticking to our plan, and understanding that if we want the life we have always envisioned and dreamed about, then we are going to have to push through any and all distractions.
  2. Be determined.
  3. Make it a game every morning to overcome the resistance.
  4. Don’t say but do.
  5. Never make excuses for not doing what it will take to press toward your goals and dreams.
  6. Accept responsibility for the outcomes each day
  7. Never be afraid to start, just start.
  8. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
  9. Keep your eye on the prize.

Remember, resistance wants us to fail and will keep us from having the life we truly desire. So, keep your head in the game and never give up.

“Our whole life is set up in the path of least resistance. We don’t want to suffer. We don’t want to feel discomfort. So the whole time, we’re living our lives in a very comfortable area. There’s no growth in that.” David Goggins
