Leanne Hainsby-Alldis, a peloton instructor said, “You don’t have to have it all figured out, but don’t give up. Slow if you need to, but don’t give up.” Leanne is so right! When I was training for Ironman Wisconsin, a number of years ago, I had very little figured out. Yes, I could swim, ride a bike, and run, but that was about it. I knew little to nothing about hydration, nutrition, or the course itself. However, there was one thing, yes one thing that allowed me to complete the course and that was I was not going to give up. I was determined to complete the course in the allotted time and I did! Was it hard? Yes, but when I crossed the finish line, they called my name over the loudspeaker and declared I was in fact an Ironman. I have the shirt and the medal that sits in my office today.
I shared that story today because it’s an important one for me to remember and for you to understand, that quitting should not be an option no matter what circumstances come your way. You have a dream and a passion for something, and you need to push forward, determined to never quit and you will cross your finish line.
Here’s some more quotes that will encourage you:
“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” Earl Nightingale
“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” Henry Ford
“You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice.” Bob Marley
“Thankfully, persistence is a great substitute for talent.” Steve Martin
And in closing, ” “I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.” Henry David Thoreau
